The Month That Was...
October 2014

There are some bloggers that often have the title,
"The Week That Was..."
I am so far behind that I have lost a whole month.

In September, I looked forward to October as the month to get a lot of things done.
I was going to be well prepared for both the Leadership Conference our church was to
host in November and my brother's wedding on Nov. 1st.
Somehow, our accident took care of all that.
On top of hurting and being very tired,
I had so many phone calls, appointments, paperwork, and
other such distractions that were directly tied to the accident.
I was pretty much tied up with all of that plus trying to live a normal life
that the things I thought I would get done just didn't happen.

Yet, life continued on...like it always seems to do!

One day's mail from the insurance company; one form for each person.
Multiply that by multiple forms on multiple days.
If you get in an accident, it's a whole lot easier if your whole family
doesn't happen
to be with you!

She is not a very relaxed chiropractic patient.

One project that needed to be tackled: Tiana's room.
She is into reading chapter books and wasn't interested in housing Early Readers
any longer.  So, I cleared those out and added in more chapter books.
It's always sad to see the books of early childhood packed away.

Then it was time to address that perpetual mess called: the black hole under the bed.
It was such a handy place to shove things in lieu of actually cleaning up the room.
It was also the most cried over place to clean out (by both her and I!).

I was determined to end this issue so I sent Tiana away with her Daddy and cleaned
it out myself.  There was no moaning or groaning over the
valuable papers that were thrown away since she wasn't there to give her input.
Then Rudy came home with grass board (used at the base of a wood fence) and cut it
to fit around the base of the bed on the two exposed sides and screwed it to the rails.

I couldn't stand the thought of that valuable storage space going to waste
so I fixed it up to serve my purposes yet made it inaccessible to the owner.

Then we replaced the Bunkie board and mattress and made the bed.
Voila!  That problem has been solved.

We were blessed with some very beautiful evening skies.
The whole valley appreciated the relief from summer's heat and
the gradual abatement of harvest dust.

A chunk of the month was spent procuring clothing for everyone that would
be fit for the wedding of a family favorite...the baby of the clan.
It was no small chore!

I "won" a white vest on eBay for Wesley to wear with his white pants.
In Tiana's mind, "won" means it was free.
She didn't seem to get the concept that I "won" the privilege of paying for this vest.

I found that I could slide Bethany's shoes inside of Wesley's for travel.
What better way to keep both of them from being crushed.

Traveling to the wedding was a bit complicated.
Our Suburban had already been in the shop for two weeks and they were nowhere
near ready to release it.  Thankfully we had a rental van and it taught us to
be very glad we can usually travel in a Suburban.
Everyone's schedules also made it impossible to travel together
so it took two trips to get us all there.

My mom's remaining siblings were all there from Iowa and Kansas
and my dad's brother was there from Arizona so it was a mini family reunion.
It was a big party every single night with a house full of people.

Mary Sue and Bethany celebrated their birthdays together.

Tiana made this rug for Matt and Nina's wedding present.
She made the squares on a hot pad loom, I sewed the squares together,
then she added the fringe along the edges.

These two made it through rehearsal without arguing excessively.
They are both rather opinionated and know just how things should be done.
It was Tiana's dream job and Jacob was simply enduring.

Pictures to follow of that glorious rainy day!

  1. Love the way you dealt with the bed. I just sent one boy back to clean under his bed. I think Tiana's is a little higher up giving you more storage space.
