 Featuring: The Kitchen Sink

It's slightly hard not to be jealous.
From different corners of the country I am hearing comments like:
"I just love these cool crisp mornings."
"Stew is simmering in the crockpot."
"Baking up a storm to warm up the house."
What???
It was 100* today and 102* yesterday.
It makes the forecasted 93* later this week look like balmy spring weather.
To add insult to the injury, there was some humidity in the air this past weekend.
Granted, it was only 30% but that is a bit muggy in my opinion.

I am still baking in my outdoor oven (which I am very thankful I have).
The camp stove and BBQ are used quite a bit too.
There's no stew being consumed around here.
Grilled meat, salads, and skillet dishes rule the table.

Speaking of kitchens:
We have a new kitchen sink.
I love this sink.
You could bathe a child in this sink;
it can certainly handle lots of big pans and tons of dishes.

Unfortunately, you can see that this sink is sitting in my living room
and is not installed in any kitchen cabinet.

That is because it has to live in its box until we have plans, money and time
for a kitchen remodel (those three things never seem to happen at the same time).

So...why did we buy a sink when we're not ready to remodel?
We have admired this particular model at IKEA the past few years and our
children's habit of flying out of airports in big cities this summer allowed us to
shop at IKEA three times in three different locations.
On our last trip, Rudy declared that we needed to just buy the sink because he
can never start making cabinets without the exact dimensions.
So, we did.
It about broke our backs loading this 100+ pound sink into the truck
but now it's sitting in the shop next to our custom pantry doors that Rudy found
at a big discount because the customer had returned them.

Now that we have a sink and pantry doors, what in the world is holding us back?
That "little" thing called money.
We do all our projects on a cash basis so if there's no cash then there's no project.
Somehow there's always other things that desperately need the money
and we sure do like to spend lots of it on food.

Realistically, despite our kitchen being original to the house
and looking all of it's 28 years,
we are blessed to have an open space, appliances that work,
water coming out of the faucet, and more food than we know how to store.
So, while we are never going to have a gourmet showcase kitchen,
we will eventually have a sturdy, attractive, functional, and organized kitchen
because that is what we really need to best function in daily life.

For a humorous but realistic take on kitchens with the realization
that no matter how old or outdated our kitchen may be, we are still very blessed:

**************************

I was not able to attend church last night so different people were
sharing the subject of the sermon when they got home.
Tiana came waltzing into the kitchen and explained what
grace and mercy were.  She then added,
"I learned all that and I wasn't even paying attention!"
