Running Through the Week

It was that time again, the Spring Festival, where each student displays a project.
Miss T, always having an opinion, had decided on her project in the fall and
had come up with the title in January.
She started taking pictures in the winter and finished up in May.
This was a long, drawn-out, but low stress project.

Many people look at the displays and due to simplicity or lack of a good lay-out
decide that the student did not put much time or thought into their project.
That might be true part of the time but even the simplest projects take an amazing
amount of time and energy.

Behind this display board you do not see all the times we stopped along a road
somewhere just to take some pictures.
Or the times I was forced to slow down while walking into a business or home
so she could take some pictures with my phone.
You do not hear her happy inhaling of breath when she spotted a new plant.
You can not see all the pictures we discarded before printing.
You can not see the time I spent uploading pictures to Costco.
You can not see the printed pictures that we discarded.
You do not hear all the discussions we had about flowers, their needs, and their types.
You do not see me racking my brain for the name of a flower I know but have forgotten
when it was time to write it on the board.
Or...the cutting, pasting, rubber cement in the carpet, the dirty streaks across the board.
I doubt if anyone stopped to read her report about bees.
But...she learned a lot and that is what counts.
She is very proud of her board and of her accomplishments.
And I am proud of the fact that she plans ahead and gets things done.

A taste of summer at our house...
{locally grown produce}

Thanks to a combination of gift cards and buy-one-get-one-free coupons,
we treated ourselves to smoothies at Jamba Juice on Memorial Day.

A funny story about this visit (highlighting the misunderstandings of Miss T):
A few months ago she had tried a smoothie and referred to it as the "Pirate" smoothie.
It was really tasty and refreshing  so I had said that I would get one of those
the next time I was there.
We walked in the door and she was perplexed because there was nothing that said
"Pirate" on the menu signs.
I finally figured out that she had ordered the "Caribbean Passion."
She could not remember that name but had put "Pirates of the Caribbean"
(a movie she has never seen!) together and only remembered the "Pirates" part of it.
Now we will probably always refer to it as the "Pirate smoothie" and will
never remember its proper name.

We're gearing up for a graduation later this week
and for a mini family reunion.
Happy and busy times are ahead.
